NEW YORK (AP)
-- Authorities have charged a dozen men in the bungled New York City
hijacking of a FedEx truck they thought contained millions of dollars'
worth of diamonds.
And authorities say the men were about to do it again when some were arrested Thursday.
The FBI says the men hijacked the truck -- filled with
Christmas presents -- on a midtown Manhattan street on Dec. 20,
2007. Authorities say the robbers kidnapped and handcuffed the FedEx
Corp. driver before releasing him, unhurt, five hours later.
The truck was found in Brooklyn. Nothing was missing or opened.
The defendants include a diamond company owner who claimed his
employees were robbed of up to $5 million in diamonds in 2005. A
co-defendant told the FBI the theft was bogus, and the owner was
involved.
