A-ROD A-OK WITH JETER, JOE

ST. LOUIS - Alex Rodriguez does not need to have a summit with Joe Torre. He is not in need of any additional support from Derek Jeter. All A-Rod needs, his agent Scott Boras insists, is time.

"Alex doesn't view Jeter or Torre as a problem," Boras said yesterday by phone.

Kenny Rogers and Jeff Weaver also are Boras clients, and formerly those players were considered horrible postseason performers. But both have acquitted themselves well this October, specifically Rogers. And Boras deduces all they needed were more chances. So he thinks a player as talented as Rodriguez will flourish with additional playoff games. Boras says a conversation with GM Brian Cashman left him thinking the Yankees "believe in the long run he is going to have great postseasons."

Boras reiterated those postseasons would be with the Yankees "without a doubt. That is from the team perspective and his perspective."

Cashman has stated several times that he has no intentions of dealing Rodriguez, and A-Rod has said he has no plans to waive his no-trade clause. But, to stay, there has been a belief that a better working relationship needs to be formed between Rodriguez and the Yankees manager and captain. Boras dismisses that concept.
