Cracking Down


New York City is cracking down of film piracy.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg says the city will begin using public nuisance laws to go after the owners of buildings where film piracy is organized and movies are sold.

More than 40 percent of the nation's pirated movies illegally sold throughout the world originate in New York City.

Bloomberg says the city will push for state legislation to increase penalties for people who sneak video cameras into theaters and record the films. Bloomberg wants to make the act a misdemeanor for first-timers and a felony for repeat offenders.
